... A HIGHWAY, YOU COULD RIDE IT ALL NIGHT LONG

Travelling along the highways in Malaysia could be an interesting one, if not a dangerous one.

Life is wonderful that you could enjoy the scenic view along the highway, cruising through smoothly when you set your car on auto-cruise. All you have to do is to hold on to your steering wheel; let your leg relax at the side of the accelerator panel; without the fear of being captured on the “candid camera” set under the bridges or hiding in the bushes.

Life is cool when you have your Ray-Ban on, and feel as if you were as smart and nice-looking as (but most probably taller than) Tom Cruise; while having your voluptuous, beautiful and attractive companion by your side in your car. At times, you may come across the parade of beetles collection cars; all with its own distinct colours, accessories; and of course sometimes cute drivers too. If your luck is good, you may come across the parade of Harley Davidson motorbikes; all with old, ugly and rugged drivers but young, pretty and sexy pillion riders.

Life is crazy on the highway as well, that cruising at 120 km/h is considered slow. Your smooth cruising mood could be spoilt when a 600cc car flashes you from behind unexpectedly with pressuring high speed that is approaching you in no time. The best is that he proves to you that his 600cc car can over take a 2-litre car in split seconds. It has proven that 20 years of cars making is a success for our national car. Surely Malaysia boleh!

Life is exciting, on the other hand, as the highway could be the perfect place for men to show off their muscles and strengths (not their own, I mean their vehicle). Some Honda or BMW drivers might think he or she is the F1 drivers, extending the Sepang circuit to the North-South Highway. Raging with extreme high speed that they push their vehicle to the limit (180 to 220 km/h), coming right after you from behind flashing their headlight from 1 or 2 KM away. By the time you signal and move into the slow lane to give way to them, their vehicles might have overtaken you, not even giving you the time to see their car model or number plate.

Life is slow and steady, on the contrary, at least for some drivers while taking their own sweet time driving at 60 to 80 km/h. These people might have mistakenly thought that they are on the trunk road; some might be colour blind that they can’t differentiate the green-coloured highway signage from blue-coloured trunk road signage. Or some maybe reminiscing those good old days when they were travelling with their brand new Sunny twenty odd years ago, which is not supposed to be on the road again.

Life is like a circus whereby many drivers will try to impress you with their own distinctive skills and tricks. Some will demonstrate to you their acrobatic skills whereby their could zip-zag in between lanes without have to wait for cars in front to give way. Some will demonstrate to you their superb handling skills that they could beat the bend at a high speed of 220km/h. Others will be the physics professors that prove to you that straight line is shorter than a curve and they will just drive straight even the road is winding.

Life is about continuously learning, above all, from the best martial art grandmasters - teaching you about body movement or, from the higher level ones, to sense the Chi of drivers who unexpectedly change lanes without signalling. Or, let some Star Wars Master Yoda’s disciples sharpen your skills so that you are able to react to those who don’t care how far your car is distanced from theirs.
